The Global Epidemiology team’s mission is to advance patient health by enabling informed decision-making through generating reliable real-world evidence (RWE) on the safety and benefits of J&J products. 

The project 

The scope of the project is to lead a systematic literature review on real world data (RWD)-based algorithms implemented in routinely collected healthcare databases for preterm birth. This project is part of a larger collaboration to conduct similar reviews across a suite of several adverse pregnancy outcomes, which is being conducted by a consortium formed through the Medications in Pregnancy and Lactation (MiPaL) Special Interest Group (SIG) of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE). Two reviews in this series have already been published in top pharmacoepidemiology journals: Pharmacoepidemiology & Drug Safety and Drug Safety. This consortium includes investigators from across the pharmaceutical industry, academic institutions, and regulatory agencies.

The goal will be to review studies that have implemented algorithms for identifying preterm birth in real world data, with a focus on any validated algorithms. The algorithms will be synthesized, summarized, and compared.

The intern will lead the multidisciplinary work group in this effort which will include (1) designing the search strategy, (2) directing and participating in the screening, review, and data extraction process, and (3) preparing a written report.

The intern will work with other epidemiologists both within the department and outside the organization who are part of the collaborative workgroup. The intern will also have an opportunity to participate in other department events (e.g., educational webinars, team meetings, networking, etc.).

This is an excellent opportunity for an epidemiologist aiming to obtain leadership experience and expand their network across the pharmaceutical industry.

Location: J&J Stockholm Office (Kolonnvägen 45, 170 67 Solna); possibility for partial remote work.

Time period:  expected start – Q1 2026 on a full-time basis.

The candidate 

• Holder of PhD in epidemiology, public health, or a related field.
• Good experience in systematic literature reviews.
• Has a good understanding of different types of population-based healthcare databases.
• Strong interest in pharmaceutical research.
• Strong interest in pregnancy, reproductive, or pediatric epidemiology.
• Has good communication, collaboration, and networking skills.
• Has good presentation skills; fluent oral and written English.
