About the company

Magnephy is a life science startup combining advanced microscopy and AI to unlock the nanoscale of biology. Founded in 2023 as a spin-off from KTH Royal Institute of Technology/SciLifeLab after nearly a decade of research on novel methods microscopy techniques. We now offer our technology as a service to pharmaceutical companies and our mission is to provide quantitative nanoscale insights into pharmaceutical efficacy, mechanism of action, and targeting directly in tissue samples.

Having completed several successful pilot projects and grown our team, we are entering a phase of rapid expansion to build new partnerships, automatize our technology and reach new markets.

About the Internship

We are looking for curious and ambitious PhD students and Postdocs who want to experience the journey from lab innovation to real-world application. You’ll gain first-hand insights into the challenges pharmaceutical developers face on the path from candidate compound to commercial drug and play a role in helping them overcome these.

We are offering two different internship tracks:

• Technology & Automation: In this technology-oriented track, you will help build on our core
  technology, the pipeline turning nanoscale 3D images into quantitative pharmacological
  insights. We are currently working toward a fully automated workflow from microscopy
  imaging to the final client report. Depending on your expertise, you can focus on:
  Acquisition: Automating microscope control and data collection.
  Processing: Developing algorithms for image analysis and segmentation.
  Delivery: Creating pipelines for automated data visualization and report generation

• Strategic Market Analysis: In this business-oriented track you will use your scientific
  knowledge to inform our growth strategy. You will research potential new application areas
  to understand if they are a suitable match for Magnephy’s technology. The tasks will include
  understanding the scientific pain points in that workflow, mapping out potential customers,
  and analyzing the competitor landscape.

In both tracks you will get the opportunity to join other company activities and experience
the full spectrum of an early-stage startup.

Location:

Hybrid, Sting/SciLifeLab coworking space and/or distance. Other offices may be available at the time of the internship.

Time Period:

Time-equivalent of 1 month full-time for PhD-students or 3 months full-time
for postdocs. The internship can be done part-time, at 50%, which is often preferred for
PhD-students. Start time is flexible based on applicants preferences but should primarily be
outside the summer vacation months for customer facing roles.

We are looking for someone who:

Has a background in Life Sciences (Biology, Biophysics, Pharmaceutics) or Engineering
(Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Physics).
Is fluent in English (written and spoken).
Is flexible and comfortable taking on diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Is proactive and eager to take initiative rather than waiting for instructions.

• For Technology & Automation: Experience with coding or image analysis tools (e.g., Python,
  R, Fiji) is a strong plus.
• For Strategic Market Analysis: You should enjoy professional networking and be comfortable
  reaching out to experts for interviews and discussions.
