COUNTAGEN

Internship Project: Scientific & Commercial Strategy in Genomic Medicine

Target Group : Postdocs & Researchers (3 months)

About Countagen

Countagen is a biotech spin-out from SciLifeLab, operating at the leading edge of genomic medicine and translational cell and gene therapy (CGT). As the field rapidly matures from research toward therapeutic application, there is a critical need in the field for tools that provide high data quality to provide a clear picture on genome integrity and editing specificity.

Our core technology, LockSeq, is a high-fidelity Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation platform. By replacing traditional library prep with a patented "molecular lock" chemistry, we minimize target dropout and suppress molecular noise. We provide the sequence-level truth required by pharma and biotech companies for research & development phases.

The Project

We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Intern to join us during this critical commercial phase. You will work at the intersection of translational science and strategic growth, helping us establish LockSeq as the standard workflow for genomic safety.

This role is designed for a researcher who is both scientifically and commercially curious and wants to understand how a breakthrough molecular tool is industrialized and positioned within the global CGT ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute head-to-head studies comparing LockSeq to industry standards, such as ddPCR and NGS workflows.
  • Support the identification of academic and industrial R&D teams as potential leads using technical signals from publications and conference presentations.
  • Collaborate on technical discussions, white papers and Customer Reports to translate complex lab data into actionable insights.

The Candidate

  • PhD in molecular biology, genomics, or computational biology
  • Track record of method development and optimization
  • Interest in translating research into commercial applications
  • Comfortable presenting technical data to potential customers from academia and industry
  • Experience in on- and off-target analysis (e.g., CRISPResso, rhAmpSeq, GUIDE-seq) - desired

Why Countagen

  • Work with an ambitious team shaping the future of gene therapy development tools.
  • Experience the dynamic and exciting startup culture.
  • Collaborative environment where your contributions directly impact product direction.
  • Gain valuable experience in early-stage biotech commercialization.

Desired Internship Period: May - November (flexible)
