NEOBIOMICS AB

PhD student Internships with Neobiomics AB

Target group

This project is for PhD students (1 month duration)

About the company

Neobiomics is dedicated to solving the unmet needs in neonatology, addressing major challenges for preterm infants. Founded in 2016, Neobiomics is a fast-growing company located at the Karolinska Institutet Science Park. As of today, we have two products available on the market. ProPrems®, a high-quality and well-documented probiotic blend and NeoMega36®, a tailor-made oil enriched with arachidonic acid and DHA, recently launched as a Food for Special Medical Purposes (FSMP).

The project

Our product ProPrems® is today used in the majority of Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) at hospitals in Sweden. We also provide ProPrems® to hospitals in more than 20 countries in Europe. The product is used for preterm infants below gestational age of 32 weeks, from birth to a post-conceptional age of 34 weeks. This means supplementation is stopped a few weeks before final discharge from the NICU. However, we as well as our users believe that the product can also benefit infants after 34 weeks, while transitioning from the in-hospital NICU care to neonatal home care. We would therefore like to investigate the pathway and steps needed to implement the use of probiotics in the home care setting. The project would include the following:

  • Evaluation of market size and opportunity for probiotics in preterm home care
  • Proposing a research plan of such a clinical study. How should the evidence to support the benefits be collected?
  • Investigation of other practical implications of such an implementation such as costs to Neobiomics and customers

Location: Flexible. Our offices are based on the KI campus in Solna but project can be carried out with virtual interaction.

Time period: flexible depending on candidate availability.

The candidate

We see potential candidates having an interest in pediatrics, nutrition and/or clinical research. Experience in design of clinical studies is an advantage.
