Bristol-Myers Squibb

Target group: PhD Students (1 month)

About the organization

Regional Clinical Operations, RCO, is a division of BMS Global Development Operations and is the in-country department that conducts global clinical trials. In the Nordics, RCO, has approximately 50 staff working on 90 trials, across the four countries (Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway).

The project
Clinical trials offer an alternate option to registered treatment for eligible patients. Clinical trial
equity -meaning that participation in trials is an option available for all members of our community,
is a growing global question. In Sweden, many of the main institutions that offer a pathway to access clinical trials are based close to main cities.

  • Does the existing country clinical trial footprint adequately cover the Swedish population and patient needs?
  • Additionally, how, and where does a company expand its clinical trial site footprint to reach
    different patients?
  • Are there under utilised institutions that, with the right support, could become research
centers to offer clinical trials to parts of our population? Where is the main gap or need for
    access to trials, if any?

For this project, the candidate will be asked to look at the demographic spread of patient populations according to therapeutic areas using publicly available information and registries to form an opinion as to the reach of BMS’s clinical trials. The outcome of the project will be a report describing the candidate’s findings and recommendations.
