Swedish Orphan Biovitrum AB (Sobi)

Epidemiology internship at Swedish Orphan Biovitrum AB (Sobi)

Target group

We are looking for an inspired and motivated candidate, to join Sobi’s headquarter in Solna for a 3-month internship during Q2/Q3 2024 (postdoctoral and early career researchers).

About the company

Sobi is a specialised international biopharmaceutical company transforming the lives of people with rare diseases. Providing sustainable access to innovative medicines in the areas of haematology, immunology, and specialty care, Sobi has approximately 1,800 employees across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia. Sobi’s Observational research team is part of the research and development (R&D) organization, and partners across the organization to bring real-world statistical and epidemiological expertise to our clinical development programs.

The project

Epidemiology and understanding of disease are foundational for establishing the benefit-risk profile of pharmaceutical interventions. Since standard of care is rapidly evolving for many rare diseases, keeping up to date with research and generated evidence on both effectiveness and safety across all available therapeutic options is paramount. Furthermore, prevalence of disease-related risk factors and comorbidities can also change over time and are important considerations. Such epidemiological understanding is important for continued assessment of benefit-risk in the post-marketing setting.

In this project, the candidate will work closely with both the Sobi Observational research and Global Pharmacovigilance teams. The candidate will lead a systematic literature review focused on epidemiology and published safety data in patients with Hemophilia and will focus on prevalence of comorbidities and underlying risk. From a project perspective, work will include all parts of a systematic literature review, including refining objectives and scope, development of search strings, screening and selection of literature, extraction of insights, derivation of epidemiological results, such as prevalence and incidence rates, summary, and reporting. The candidate will have the opportunity to attend regular, cross-functional team meetings, communicate project results to diverse audiences and to learn and gain experience from epidemiology work in a pharmaceutical company.

We are looking forward to welcoming you and embark upon a mutual learning experience!

The candidate

To excel in this role, you will need to have:

  • Experience in epidemiological research and excellent attention to detail, quality, and scientific rigor
  • Prior experience of leading systematic literature searches
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ideally experience in hematology rare disease
